Back in the summer of 2011, during a powerful run of club shows through Helsinki, Finland, two worlds linked on stage when my friend Black Russian joined forces with the Bobo Ashanti icon himself, Fantan Mojah. Between the heavy basslines and the high-energy conscious vibrations of that tour, a moment unfolded behind the scenes that cemented a lasting musical bond.
Black Russian represented me directly to Fantan—sharing the story of a selector and creator who truly understood, respected, and properly handled the weight of Jamaican roots music. Recognizing that genuine spirit, Fantan stepped up and voiced a personal, customized radio drop just for me. Coming from a warrior who built his name on sound systems like Killamanjaro and delivered anthems like “Hail the King” and “Rasta Got Soul,” that drop wasn’t just audio—it was a true stamp of validation and brotherhood.
Yesterday, the reggae fraternity gathered to lay a giant to rest. While the physical presence of Fantan Mojah has made its transition, the vibrations he laid down remain eternal. From the stages of Kingston to the venues of Europe, his fire and voice will never fade.
