Neil D’Tyson on Heat and Cold existence. Is he wrong ?
No doubt, Neil is a seriously intelligent man and this is about a comment he makes on cold existence that I saw a few days ago. Something doesn’t quite sit right. “trillions of degrees” is a state he thinks is possible and I am calling out the theory.
However – I d’off my hat to the brilliant man.
I agree that like love, the opposite of heat is a lack of heat, just like the opposite of love is a lack of love and consequence aside, we are left with a result. The base result of a lack of heat is absolute zero. The notion that cold doesn’t exist so you can’t add cold to it and make it colder.
But Neil tells us in the video that you can add heat to heat and go to trillions of degrees. But he is wrong ? to make it sound like there is no such place as absolute heat. I’m not sure he is trying to do this or if he goes on to speak about it but the video clips we are seeing certainly leave a man to think.
We have to go into theory mode now : Assume we know the elements required to burn the hottest heat possible. We can go with what we already know but it’s possible there is something hotter than we know, however, combine both the hottest elements and conditions and pack them as tightly as possible so that no more can be added and you will undoubtly reach a record temperature, that cannot be beaten.
Yes, this is a bit weird. Why ? because in theory, someone comes along and says “but add a bit of x to y and you get an even hotter temperature” hence why we assume to know the elements and conditions to create the hottest heat possible.
Heat is not like distance or time. And yes in theory if there were better or more powerful heat creating conditions, then this is all nonsense, but it isn’t. Because if we find out more, we have just improved the record and found that new highest temperature and go full circle to why we assume the elements and conditions.
But what is the hottest recordable temperature ? Damn good question.
The hottest place recorded on earth just on weather alone is 56.7°C (134°F)
But the hottest temperature ever manufactured by man or nature according to google ai

So maybe we are into the trillions of degrees, but there is a ceiling on this ability, by man or nature.
100% Respect to Neil. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
